The Big Mix: Macmillan Cancer Support charity event

As a summer of festivals ebbs away, and nostalgia heads in as the days grow shorter, you need not fear, as The Big Mix is finally back to put a spring into September! Every penny raised goes to Macmillan Cancer Support, so you can gallop down there knowing the proceeds have solely good intentions!

The pressure to top 2011’s fusion of astounding artists is undeniable, but they have certainly done it! On the menu this year comes the eclectic sound of Sam Duckworth, the genius also known as Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, alongside Josh Kumra, the tornado behind smash hit, Don’t Go. Alessi Laurent-Marke from Alessi’s Ark, will be performing her folky, chilled out Ellie Goulding/Bjork-esque ballads, and Josephine will soulfully satisfy those looking for something stripped back and rhythmically unusual. Cockney star Chas & His Band will entertain with up-tempo rock tunes, and The Penelopes will bring some classy French dance to the rock vibe with their debut album, Never Live Another Yesterday.

Not only music, but comedy will storm the East London stages in a flurry of up-and-coming talent. Controversial Matt Forde will perform with his infectious laugh, alongside Tom Deacon with his contemporary comedy style. Mark Smith and Matt Green will join the bill, with high praise from both Edinburgh and Brighton fringes.

The Big Mix will throw out performances of burlesque, cabaret and circus styles, as well as Short & Sweet, for those interested in seeing an inspiring collection of short films. All this among a plethora of entertainment including hip hop karaoke, music bingo, food and fashion stalls; there is something for everyone. Festival season may seem over, but it is not!
