Spanish chef Albert Adrià will receive the The Best Chef of the Year in Europe award at Madrid Fusión Alimentos de España 2026, one of the world’s most influential gastronomy summits. The honour will be given during the event’s main ceremony in Madrid, recognising Adrià’s significant contributions to contemporary cuisine.

Widely regarded as a leading figure in modern gastronomy, the chef has built a career noted for innovation and creativity. His work spans more than two decades, most notably at elBulli, where he played a pivotal role in the restaurant’s creative revolution that influenced global culinary trends. He remains connected to this legacy through his involvement with the elBullifoundation, an organisation dedicated to culinary research and education.

Throughout his career, Adrià has launched a series of projects that have helped redefine modern restaurant formats. These include Inopia, a tapas bar concept, and the elBarri gastronomic ecosystem in Barcelona, which brought together several distinct dining experiences under one umbrella. He has also undertaken international ventures in cities such as Ibiza, London and New York, expanding his influence beyond Spain’s borders. The recent reopening of his Barcelona restaurant, Enigma, has been noted as evidence of his ongoing commitment to creative, boundary-pushing gastronomy.

The award is presented by Madrid Fusión Alimentos de España in partnership with Avolta, a major operator in the restaurant sector. According to the organisers, the recognition is intended to highlight not only the Spanish chef’s exceptional career but also his “decisive contribution to the evolution of gastronomy on a global scale”. The ceremony will take place in the main auditorium at the conference and will feature Xavier Rossinyol, CEO of Avolta, José Carlos Capel, president of Madrid Fusión, and Benjamín Lana, director of Madrid Fusión.

Madrid Fusión Alimentos de España is considered a key event on the international culinary calendar, attracting chefs, restaurateurs and industry professionals from around the world. The 2026 edition, where Adrià will be honoured, continues the summit’s tradition of recognising influential figures in the food industry.
