A new series of hands-on masterclasses blending botanical craft with maritime folklore is launching at Rhum Tavern in London’s West End this spring. The Rhum Tavern x London Terrariums Masterclass Series, organised in partnership with Kraken Rum, will run on select Wednesdays—11th March, 15th April, 6th May, and 17th June—at the Margaret Street venue, inviting participants to create their own terrarium inside a Kraken Rum bottle. The sessions are designed to offer guests an introduction to terrarium-making, guided by experts from London Terrariums, alongside a tasting of signature cocktails.

Each masterclass, lasting 60 to 90 minutes, includes a brief history and explanation of terrariums, followed by a practical session where attendees assemble a self-sustaining ecosystem using curated plants, mosses, and materials. Participants will also be served two cocktails from a menu inspired by Kraken Rum’s spiced flavour profile and will receive a Kraken-themed gift to take home.

The host venue, Rhum Tavern, opened less than two years ago on Margaret Street and houses one of the city’s most diverse collection of rums, with over 350 bottles from around the world. The bar is the debut solo project of Gabriel de-Vere, who has previously worked at establishments including Sketch, Lounge Lover, The Little Yellow Door, and Mr Fogg’s. The interior, reminiscent of a historical pirate ship, features reclaimed timber flooring, a resin bar top decorated with gold-cast pirate coins, and custom-made glassware. The cocktail list is presented on charred parchment, evoking the look of old treasure maps.

De-Vere said: “My focus is always primarily on hospitality and the trimmings of great drinks, food, and ambience. The Rhum Tavern has been a passion project for the last few years and has led to an experience where rum-led drinks can be enjoyed in a new, immersive style. We have taken a lot of time to create a menu that pushes boundaries with bespoke designed glassware, waste-conscious measures, and flavours that we all love; rum is one of the fastest growing categories, and the opportunity to launch a venue where brands and patrons alike can explore the spirit is a dream come true.”

The Rhum Tavern’s drinks list features 12 signature cocktails, including the Tepache Rum Punch, Kun-Jali, and Dead Men Tell No Tales, as well as classic cocktails with a rum twist. The venue also offers a bar food menu and operates a retail arm, allowing customers to purchase bottles to take home. In addition to the upcoming terrarium masterclasses, the bar will host fortnightly rum masterclasses for those interested in learning more about global rum trends.
