Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea to launch at The Clermont Charing Cross

Platform 7 at The Clermont Charing Cross, on the Strand in central London, will launch an afternoon tea themed around Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland on Tuesday 3rd November 2026. Called A Curious Afternoon Tea, it is priced at £70 per person, or £82 with a glass of Champagne or a cocktail. To mark the launch, the hotel will run giveaways during the opening week, including free drinks and hidden prizes.

Each day of launch week at 3.07pm, guests visiting Platform 7 will be given a complimentary non-alcoholic A Curious Afternoon Tea cocktail, a nod to the Mad Hatter’s tea party. Model White Rabbits will also be hidden around the hotel, and guests who find one can win prizes ranging from drinks and afternoon teas to overnight stays at the hotel. The hotel’s social media channels, under @theclermontlondon, will post daily at 7.07am, with some posts offering the chance to win the new afternoon tea.

The menu is divided into three courses, each named after a character from the book. The White Rabbit is the savoury course. It includes truffle oil-infused hen’s egg, mayonnaise and cress on sweet brioche, blue cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches, grilled chicken and apricot with herb mayonnaise and a triple-decker smoked salmon sandwich with sour cream on dark rye.

The Mad Hatter course covers the sweets. Among them are an Eat Me raspberry and chocolate tart, rose marmalade and lime-filled sablé biscuits, black sesame and cherry opera cake and an apple mousse. The Queen of Hearts course consists of warm plain and cranberry scones served with Cornish clotted cream, strawberry preserve and lemon curd.

Teas come from Newby; they include English Breakfast, Earl Grey and Darjeeling Assam, along with blends such as Jasmine Pearls and Strawberry & Mango.

A themed drinks list accompanies the tea. The White Rabbit cocktail combines Bombay Sapphire gin, Italicus, lime juice, almond syrup, aquafaba and coconut cream. The Queen of Hearts mixes Campari, Aperol, Archers, lemon juice, honey and aquafaba. For a non-alcoholic option, the Looking Glass Lemonade is made with fresh strawberries, lemon juice, raspberry juice, coconut syrup and lemonade.
