Swiss Butter to debut in Paris, bringing signature steak frites to the heart of French dining

Swiss Butter, the international steak frites restaurant chain founded by Lebanese restaurateur Eddy Massaad, will open their first Paris location this June in the city’s 9th arrondissement, marking their 21st international venue. The opening brings the chain, known for iconic butter-based sauce and a single-price menu, to a city historically associated with the dish.

The Paris launch represents a notable expansion for the company, which first opened in Beirut in 2017 and has since established outlets across Europe and the Middle East. The menu remains deliberately limited, centred on steak, French fries and a proprietary butter-based sauce, with chicken and salmon available as alternatives.

Main courses at the new venue will be priced at €19.95, in keeping with the brand’s single-price model that applies across all of their branches. They say this model has remained in place since the first location opened nearly a decade ago and has been a factor in their growth.

Swiss Butter have built a substantial online following, particularly on TikTok and Instagram, where videos featuring the restaurant’s signature sauce have generated millions of views. Customers are reported to have travelled to existing locations specifically to try the sauce, contributing to a wider resurgence of interest in steak frites on social media platforms.

Unlike many hospitality brands that have broadened their menus for the international market, Swiss Butter have retained a narrow operational structure focused on consistency and repeatability. The team have described their approach as central to being able to scale without having to diversify.

The Paris opening holds particular significance given France’s long association with steak frites and brasserie dining traditions. Rather than presenting the venue as a reinvention of the category, it is framed as a modern interpretation contributing to the ongoing evolution of the dish.

Commenting on the upcoming launch, Massaad said: “For Swiss Butter, Paris has always stood out as one of our most interesting markets. There is a humility that comes with entering a city so closely tied to steak frites culture. We are excited to become part of that conversation while recognising the heritage that made the dish globally loved in the first place.”
