Monte-Carlo Television Festival returns for landmark 65th edition

Between zombie survivors, soap legends and some of the biggest names working in television today, Monte-Carlo’s 65^th edition looks set to offer a little bit of everything.

Running from 12^th to 16^th June at the Grimaldi Forum, the Monte-Carlo Television Festival returns with a programme that spans long-running audience favourites, major international productions and conversations about where the medium is heading next.

Leading the line-up is The Walking Dead: Dead City, which will open this year’s festival with the international premiere of its third season. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan are expected to attend, bringing two of the franchise’s most enduring characters, Negan and Maggie, to Monaco. Given the pair’s complicated history across more than a decade of The Walking Dead, their appearance is likely to be one of the week’s biggest talking points.

The festival also leans into television’s remarkable longevity. The Bold and the Beautiful stars Katherine Kelly Lang, Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, Thorsten Kaye, Tanner Novlan and Kimberlin Brown are all set to attend. Lang alone has played Brooke Logan since the series began in 1987, making her one of the most recognisable faces in daytime television.

Joining them are The Young and the Restless stars Michelle Stafford and Michael Graziadei. First broadcast in 1973, the soap recently celebrated more than 50 years on air and remains one of the most decorated programmes in Daytime Emmy history.

Elsewhere, FBI lead Zeeko Zaki and CIA star Nick Gehlfuss will represent producer Dick Wolf’s ever-expanding slate of dramas, while French hit Un Si Grand Soleil will bring some of its cast to Monaco. Since launching in 2018, the series has become a fixture of French evening television.

Marking the festival’s anniversary, audiences will also get the chance to see Monte-Carlo, a Festival and 65 Years of Television, a documentary charting the event’s history from its creation by Prince Rainier III in 1961 to the present day. At a time when viewing habits continue to evolve, it feels like an apt moment to reflect on how much television itself has changed.

Away from the premieres and talent appearances, the Business Forum will explore topics including artificial intelligence, streaming and the rise of digital creators, with industry figures gathering to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the sector.
