Michael Sheen’s Welsh sci-fi dramedy Out There to premiere at Edinburgh Film Festival
Michael Sheen’s latest film, Out There, will receive its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival this August, ahead of a worldwide sales launch by UK distributor Film Seekers.
The family sci-fi dramedy marks the feature directorial debut of Simon Ryninks and follows a rebellious 16-year-old living in a small Welsh seaside town who becomes convinced that a mysterious UFO sighting holds the key to her father’s disappearance. Joined by her sceptical best friend and an eccentric local UFO enthusiast, she embarks on an unexpected adventure that ultimately leads her to rediscover family, friendship and a sense of belonging.
Newcomers Nerys Amber Stocks and Tom Moya lead the cast, alongside Michael Sheen, Aneurin Barnard, Iwan Rheon and Alice Lowe.
Ahead of the film’s premiere on 14th August, Film Seekers has acquired worldwide sales rights to Out There, marking one of the company’s first major acquisitions since joining Epic Pictures Group earlier this year.
The film was developed with support from the BFI, Ffilm Cymru Wales and the TIFF Filmmaker Lab, with production backed by Creative Wales and the Arts Council of Wales.
Speaking about the partnership, Film Seekers’ Sales & Acquisitions Executive Ethan Cross said: “Out There is a charming, eccentric and heartfelt story that will appeal to all the family,” adding that its nostalgic take on UFO folklore feels “timelier than ever”.
