Viola Davis, Idris Elba and Cynthia Erivo lead fantasy epic Children of Blood and Bone
Paramount Pictures has confirmed that Children of Blood and Bone, Gina Prince-Bythewood’s adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel, will arrive in UK cinemas and IMAX in January 2027.
Set in the magical kingdom of Orïsha, the film follows a young woman who embarks on a dangerous quest to restore the magic that was stolen from her people. Joined by her brother and two unlikely royal allies, she must challenge a ruthless monarchy whose grip on the kingdom has left magic all but extinct.
Leading the cast is Thuso Mbedu alongside Damson Idris, Amandla Stenberg and Tosin Cole, with an ensemble that also includes Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Zackary Momoh, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Idris Elba and Viola Davis. Rising stars Bukky Bakray, Saniyya Sidney and singer Ayra Starr also feature.
Prince-Bythewood, whose previous credits include The Woman King and The Old Guard, directs from a screenplay she co-wrote with Adeyemi, adapting the first novel in the bestselling Legacy of Orïsha trilogy. The film is produced by Temple Hill Entertainment, the company behind the Twilight and Maze Runner franchises, alongside Sunswept Entertainment.
