Louis Garrel and Camille Cottin lead French coming-of-age comedy Just an Illusion
MetFilm Distribution has announced that Just an Illusion, the latest film from Untouchable filmmakers Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, will be released in UK and Irish cinemas on 11th September.
Louis Garrel (The Innocent, Little Women) and Camille Cottin (Call My Agent!, House of Gucci) star as the parents of Vincent (newcomer Simon Boubil), a boy on the cusp of his 13th birthday who finds himself navigating first love, family tensions and the uncertainty of growing up in suburban Paris in 1985. As childhood begins to slip away, Vincent gradually discovers that the adults around him are just as lost as he is.
Written and directed by BAFTA nominees Toledano and Nakache, the film draws on the pair’s own childhood memories and family experiences, combining humour with an affectionate portrait of adolescence against a backdrop of economic uncertainty and anti-fascist protests in 1980s France. A vibrant soundtrack of music from the era accompanies the story.
Inspired by the filmmakers’ own teenage years, Just an Illusion became a major box office success in France, with its nostalgic coming-of-age story resonating with audiences.
