The Maine at the Electric Ballroom
Aside from being legends of the American pop-rock scene, The Maine are all lovely guys who clearly care a lot about their fans, despite having been on their feet all day. When we arrived at the venue, they were still meeting and greeting fans with smiles on their faces and posing for photos. Their charm definitely translated to the show with John O’Callaghan being an active and exciting front-man, keeping the crowd engaged throughout.
When the band came on stage, the sense of exploding anticipation was overwhelming, packed with an eclectic mix of people teeming with excitement. The atmosphere in the crowded venue was electric, furthered only by the band’s insatiable power to hold the crowd in the palm of their hands.
Pioneer as an album that brings a much more mature sound, tearing them away from the stereotypical all-American, pop-rock “emo” sound they championed in previous records. The songs were more serious, more thought through and still maintained the band’s classic rock riffs and exceptional musicality. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still something for their old-school fans too, and they definitely made a point of playing their classics, however, Pioneer is a definite progression of sound for the guys.
An epic live band who give everything to their performance, and as fans, we would definitely recommend giving them a listen. The DVD Anthem for a Dying Breed is released in the UK on 16th October and includes a host of live performances and extra footage.
