Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer lead new sci-fi series Blade Runner 2099 arriving this November

More than four decades after Ridley Scott first introduced audiences to the dystopian world of Blade Runner, the science-fiction franchise is returning with a new chapter. Starring Michelle Yeoh and Euphoria actress Hunter Schafer, Blade Runner 2099 arrives on Prime Video on 25th November, taking viewers another 50 years into the future.

Set half a century after the events of Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, the eight-part limited series introduces a Los Angeles that has been rebuilt, though not by humanity. At the centre of the story is Cora, a fugitive desperate to stop running who assumes one final identity as a Blade Runner. She finds herself working alongside Olwen, a Replicant with just days left to live, as they pursue a runaway whose secrets could threaten the city’s fragile existence.

The series continues the franchise’s exploration of artificial intelligence, identity and what it means to be human, themes that have defined Blade Runner since the original 1982 film starring Harrison Ford.

Yeoh and Schafer are joined by a cast including House of the Dragon actor Matthew Needham, Furiosa star Tom Burke, Sheila Atim, Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben.

Behind the scenes, Shining Girls creator Silka Luisa serves as showrunner, while Scott returns as an executive producer. Jonathan van Tulleken, whose credits include Shōgun, directs the first two episodes.

With its new setting, central partnership and mystery surrounding the future of Los Angeles, Blade Runner 2099 opens another chapter in a cinematic universe that has spent decades questioning the boundaries between humans and the beings they create.
