Tu Fawning at Madame JoJo’s

Upon stepping onto the stage, Tu Fawning jumped straight into their set, demonstrating the nature of the band’s subject matter and doing it through booming sound quality and energetic percussion. The crowd slowly began seeping on to the dance floor. The inviting tones of the guitar and harmonious vocals drew the attention of everyone in the venue.

As the second song began, the crowd was just as warmed up as the band. Following this, the band decided to drive forward with a more up-tempo song. The timing was impeccable as people flooded on to the dance floor. The heavy use of percussion by the band worked well in their favour as the group remained tight and consistent throughout the set. As they gradually progressed through their songs, each one ended with a louder and louder applause from the audience.

One issue that did crop up in each song was the difficulty of hearing the lyrics clearly. This may have been a problem caused by the venue itself, as the previous bands also had their lyrics take a back seat. The arrangement of the band’s instruments was excellent and suited the lights and layout of the stage. The multi-coloured beams illuminated the stage giving the music an otherworldly quality that befitted its nature.

There were times between songs when the band seemed to hesitate and take too long to dive into the next track. This gave way to seemingly improvised jokes which left the crowd bored and impatient. However, the intros for each song were well played, building tension and excitement. Pulling this off came almost naturally to them and ensured the gig flowed well.
