To celebrate the release of his new album “Survival &Resistance” (released on On-U Sound and distributed and marketed by Warp on the 20th of August), the venerated producer Adrian Sherwood will be unleashing his thrillingbass heavy, live dub set at Village Underground. Alongside him will be Africa Hitech – Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek, performing live their electronic diaspora project; Michachu and Kwes aka ‘Kwesachu’ will be putting down one of their hyped mixtapes in real time and DJ Ross Allen will be holding it down, making it an impeccable Friday night line up.

For more than three decades, Adrian Sherwood has been one of the world’s finest and most consistently groundbreaking producers, artists and remixers. He has wrought his dark magic upon acclaimed artists such as Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Primal Scream and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, and more recently Django Django and Peaking Lights. He was asked by David Lynch to work on the ‘Wild at Heart’soundtrack, and has coined countless mind-melting new sounds with acts such as Tackhead and Mark Stewart, as well as his own pioneering creations. Sherwood has always preferred to operate in the shadows, where his creative integrity is least threatened by the all-corrupting ludicrousness of the pop mainstream. Largely left to his own devices, he has built up a colossal body of work, whose staggering diversity somehow never eclipsed his own identity, nor diluted his unique bass-anchored sound.

This August, Adrian Sherwood is to release “Survival & Resistance”, on his own legendary label On-U Sound, distributed and marketed by Warp Records. A swirling maelstrom of skull-shaking, heavy electronic tones and masterful deployment of breathing space and alien echo, Survival & Resistance is the sound of avant-garde dub music in 2012. This intensity of sound is duly reflected in his immense live shows.

Nearly nine years ago Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek began bonding over their shared passion for the seemingly disparate spheres of bubbling Detroit techno, soul and fierce Jamaican digital dancehall. Africa Hitech is the moniker which represents both Steve and Mark’s love for all things progressive within music, whilst acknowledging that the roots of much of today’s popular music can be traced directly back to Africa.

Another devious duo of leftfield pop, artist Michachu and musician and producer Kwes, DJing as Kwesachu. This collaboration started in 2008 with the release of the Kwesachu  Vol 1 mixtape – 50 minutes of cassette tape which proved that both artists were a match made in skewed pop heaven, and gave birth to ‘free pop’ – a philosophy of creating popular music that knows no boundaries, shuns no eccentricity and values inventiveness over any kind of rules that have gone before.

Holding everything down is Ross Allen, a man of many talents and one of London’s most well known faces on the music scene. His Sony award winning radio show ‘Destination In’ for GLR lead to him becoming Gilles Peterson’s occasional wingman for his Worldwide show.
