This Is The Uniform: contemporary sophistication

This Is The Uniform: contemporary sophistication

Exploring “the systems and rules of dress” we set our eyes on a colourless, slightly melancholic collection of clear overalls, strong silhouettes and sports luxe sweatpants, paired with retro Reebox trainers. Collection 001 No Collar from new London-based fashion brand This Is The Uniform aims to “draw upon our relationship with clothing and its power to unite and divide us” inspired by the “codes and systems of dress from a Victorian era”. The bold collection showcases a sensible, more demure type of grunge, exploring ideas of “urban etiquette and properness” whilst ironically rebelling against conventional rules of dressing.

The clothes exude a daring and fearless energy channelling androgynism, whilst still being attractive and feminine. Our favourite look from the collection is a sleek Lycra black high-neck top paired with a clear chiffon side-split black skirt which embodies dominance with a ladylike edge. We also love the white chiffon t-shirt dress, epitomising girly chic.

The British brand has a strong focus on “quality, functionality and fit”, emitting a sophistication that is still modern and hip, and appeals to a young fashion-forward audience. Ensuring that each piece is “being designed, sourced and manufactured in Great Britain” highlights how the brand is concerned with ethical manufacturing and bringing work to British businesses.

Collection 001 comprises of “layers of silk organza”, “natural fabrics such as silk and wool” and “synthetic wadding” inspired by Victorian menswear. The clothes provide a twist on smart casual, and are advised to be worn “separately or layered upon one another”.

This Is The Uniform is a sleekly tailored, vintage-inspired brand covered in a gritty and bold overcoat to create a powerful, chic and striking collection.
