Sarah Jessica Parker’s designing debut collection

Sarah Jessica Parker aka Carrie Bradshaw, the character from Sex and the City a name recognised by all women and men worldwide, not only for her relationship with Mr Big but also her obsession with shoes has decided to take the next step. No pun intended. Sarah will be launching her own footwear collection after 15 years of making her debut as Ms Bradshaw.

This debut collection is entitled… wait for it… SJP.

So why has Sarah decided to take this jump into design? “Because I got to play that role, I wore a lot of shoes, and by default I learned an enormous amount,” she told US Vogue, of her time on Sex and the City. “It’s hard to – no pun intended – walk away from that.”

Well, with all the prancing around New York City in stilettos certainly gives you a heads up on what is most comfortable and simultaneously elegant-chic.

For this collection, Sarah has rather appropriately chosen to collaborate with George Malkemus, CEO of Manolo Blahnik, the brand that Carrie in Sex and the City helped put on the fashion map. There will also be an accessories line featuring an array of bags and trench coats.

Wanting to offer something different, Sarah is drawing inspiration from labels she considers to be the pioneers of their time, Charles Jourdan and Maud Frizon. With her focus upon shape, colour, and price, she plans to produce simple yet stylish pumps and flats priced between £130 and £190. Bags, on the other hand, will be steeply priced at around £450.

According to Sarah: “In a silly way, I think it’s what people have expected of me most because of Carrie Bradshaw. We’re putting new colours together that people don’t typically do, just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet. And in terms of bags, thinking about that period of the seventies into the eighties, what those women were carrying, taking away the bells and the whistles and hardware and really making it about the bag.”

The SJP collection will be completely manufactured in Europe and New York City and exclusively available through US retailer Nordstrom early next year.

Once a shoe lover, always a shoe lover. Can’t wait to see the SJP collection launched!
