A romantic fairy tale comes to life: Freak Factory A/W collection 2013

Inspired by Ludwig Tieck’s romantic fairy tale written in 1797, the Lithuanian clothing brand Freak Factory has created a fall collection inspired by gothic aesthetics found in medieval times. “It all started with a black and white illustration. The lurking flowers which symbolise destiny or a rabbits burrow,” explains creative director and lead designer Jeva Bartusevicuite.Freak-Factory-Autumn-Winter-2013-2014-Fashion-Trends-1-600x903

The novel famously known as Die Blonde Berta translated to English as “The Blonde Bertha”, tells a story of a heroine destined for challenges laid out by fate and irony.  The heroine, known as Bertha, resonates with most women as she is tough but rises through the darkness in this melancholic fairy tale.Freak-Factory-Autumn-Winter-2013-2014-Fashion-Trends-15-600x903

Freak Factory is a fashion label that represents the style of self-confident, free, brave and innovative women and true to Bertha’s determined nature Freak Factory have ensured that both darkness and the strength to rise from darkness are portrayed in this line.  Different textures in various shades of red, black, mineral tones of greenish and bluish grey, moss-green and camel fade organically to gold, and skin tones can be found in the collection.Freak-Factory-Autumn-Winter-2013-2014-Fashion-Trends-19-600x903

The Blonde Bertha is the brand’s seventh collection, and they have stuck to the brand’s innovative nature and storyline, by using a mixture of texture to bring the gothic undertones to life. The collection has various textural qualities such as fleece, mohair and jersey which cement the fall feel, but softer, lighter fabrics such as silk, cotton and viscose have been added to soften the heroine’s strong exterior. Freak-Factory-Autumn-Winter-2013-2014-Fashion-Trends-24

Designer Jeva has created a collection of pants, skirts, heavy knitted tops and jackets laden with metals that mimic ancient Asian influence and knight-like armour.  Colours and styles are influenced by a minimalistic mood and create a sexy yet elegant finish, putting our heroine in the forefront.

This line is definitely for the lady who conquers life’s everyday challenges with the option to do it in style.
