Is Cara really the new Kate Moss?

Is Cara really the new Kate Moss?

It seems model of the moment Cara Delevingne can do no wrong. The captivating beauty has unfurled across the media world and people just can’t get enough of her. She has been deemed “the new Kate Moss”, but is the 21-year-old entitled to such an iconic parallel? Naomi Campbell recently spoke to The Mail about the comparison: “Cara is Cara Delevingne, Kate is Kate Moss. People are just saying that because she is the same height as Kate. But there is only going to be one Kate Moss. Kate is an icon.”

Okay, so they do share a few common features, starting with their discovery. The same agent Sarah Doukas from Storm discovered them both. But unlike Cara, Kate was plucked from obscurity whilst travelling through JFK airport. Cara, on the other hand, was best friends with Doukas’ daughter, so it wasn’t much of a challenge for the bushy-browed beauty’s potential to be noticed.

Secondly, they are both shorter than the conventional runway model. And then the final similarity is probably the media frenzy that follows them, oh and of course they both share a love for partying.

So there you have it, there are indeed a few similarities, but Naomi is right – they are both their own person. In fact we’ve noticed more obvious contrasting traits than comparative.

Cara is bright, bubbly, wild and quirky. She is never one to shy away from the camera or to stop and have fun with the public. Kate, however, is calm and collected in front of the public; you would never see her crossing her eyes or have her tongue dangling out. If she did, the media would probably condemn her – it’s just not her. Kate has said before she doesn’t like to open herself up to criticism by the press so does her best to avoid it, presumably a wise move, while Cara’s career has escalated so quickly due to her unique and entertaining attitude towards the press. She presents a carefree and wacky persona, constantly pulling wild and unflattering faces whilst bunny earring the person next to her.

When it comes to personal style, both models are very different. Cara is a tomboy at heart and is famously seen bopping around London in her beanie, t-shirt and jeans. Kate also has a relaxed style, but it is more feminine chic than Cara. You are never surprised to see Cara fumbling around in an animal onesie. Now, can you imagine Kate striding down the streets in one? No, certainly not.

They are both successful, beautiful and hold unique star-like qualities – but they are extremely different characters. Cara’s career has just begun and we have no doubt she will become an icon.

New Kate Moss? No.

Next big thing? Yes.
