Ija Designs: fascinated with metal
Erin is the designer behind Ija Designs. The label was founded in 2007 and was born out of a love of fashion and the modern woman. With an emphasis on the quality and character of hand-crafted jewellery, each Ija Design piece is made with the utmost attention to detail by the designer herself. A trained metalsmith, Erin is fascinated with the variety of textures she is able to translate to metal, and works with the juxtaposition of fine metal with various natural elements.
The label considers itself to be “green”. They run the studio on 100% renewable energy, recycle all their scrap metal and purchase recycled metals. Recognising that the jewellery industry as a whole is damaging to our environment, they strive to create as little impact as possible.
These pieces at Ija Design are beyond unique. The figure eight earrings are absolutely gorgeous. If you like your statement rings, then you will love the cuttlefish ring. The twig fringe necklace may be simple but it’s so pretty. It’s definitely the earrings that stand out in the collection though. There are so many beautiful designs to choose from.
What inspires these fabulous pieces? Inspiration for the line comes from every aspect of Erin’s life, including her beautiful family, Oregon’s amazing scenery as well as lines and textures present in the world around us. She recently won her battle with breast cancer and this has taught her to be grateful for each moment, and is honoured to make a living creating her art.
