It’s no fun if it isn’t fair: People Tree x Zandra Rhodes

It’s no fun if it isn’t fair: People Tree x Zandra Rhodes

Fair trade fashion house People Tree has teamed up with British textile icon Zandra Rhodes to bring us a collection of 100% organic cotton garments.IMG_0262

Motivated by sustainable fashion initiatives, Rhodes and People Tree are making great strides in raising awareness of the impacts of genetically modified fabrics, and the percussion their cultivation has had on their farmers. Genetically modified materials are not only expensive to farm, but the pesticides used to treat them have been responsible for countless farming deaths and illnesses.IMG_0245

Rhodes and People Tree highlighted their trip to India, where they visited both the farms and factories in which their garments were produced, with Rhodes utilising her environment as food for thought, inspiration and incentive for this project.IMG_0227

Monday evening’s presentation, hosted at the famed designer’s breathtaking flat at the Fashion and Textile Museum (we know… whoa!), was a great forum for interesting, introspective and progressive discussions on the future of fashion and sustainable products. This line and collaboration are entirely representative of the fact that the production of fabulous garments is not equivocal to the suffering and sacrificing of human life. We hope to see more support follow and engage in this phenomenal movement.
