Belgravia to welcome new rooftop dining spot, Cornus, in August

London’s Belgravia is set to become home to a new rooftop fine dining spot, Cornus, this coming August. The venture is the latest from the team behind Chelsea restaurant, Medlar, including David O’Connor and Joe Mercer-Nairne. They are joined by Chef Gary Foulkes, formerly of the Michelin-starred Angler, who will lead the kitchen.

Cornus’ menu celebrates British seasonal produce, brought to life through Foulkes’ vibrant and precise cookery. The restaurant will build upon the exceptional hospitality Medlar is known for, with many of its former team members, including former Head Sommelier Melania Battiston, playing key roles in the new establishment. Battiston, alongside World Young Sommelier of the Year Lukasz Gorski, will curate a wine list featuring unique bottles with compelling stories and that, somehow, left an impression on the staff members.

The à la carte menu present creative and elevated dishes, grounded in the traditional principles and techniques of French cuisine. Fresh Cornish seafood will come from long time friend and supplier Johnny Godden of Flying Fish, French produce including Landes chickens from top producer Arnaud Tauzin via Maurica Fitzgerald at Le Marche du Chef, and the season’s best fruit and vegetables from greengrocer David Swain at Primeur.

The 70-cover restaurant is located on the rooftop of The Ice Factory at Eccleston Yards, a repurposed warehouse originally built in 1830 for Shingleton’s Ice Company, redeveloped by Grosvenor, and nowadays a space that promises breathtaking views of London’s skyline. The interior, designed by Day Studio, draws inspiration from the restaurant’s namesake, the dogwood shrub, creating an ambiance of warmth and elegance. Among the details, there are tactile fabrics, warm metallic details and responsive lighting systems, which interact with the time of day.

David O’Connor expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the importance of service in creating an unforgettable dining experience. He and his team, he said, “are now looking forward to bringing Cornus to the Belgravia community – building relationships with new visitors, who we hope will soon become returning customers.”
