Lasdun to open new summer terrace on Southbank

Modern British restaurant, Lasdun, is set to open a new summer terrace on Monday, 1st July. This announcement comes from the team behind the celebrated Marksman Public House, marking a fresh venture that promises to combine seasonal local produce with contemporary flair.

Situated on the expansive Southbank terrace at the National Theatre and overlooking the Thames, the new outdoor dining area will offer guests a tasty opportunity to savour the warmer months. The menu is designed to reflect the founders’ commitment to celebrating the best of what the seasons have to offer, featuring items such as a Dorset Crab and Mayonnaise Bun, *Treacle-cured Tamworth Ham and Lincolnshire Poacher Bun, and Goat’s Curd, Caper, and Watercress Bun.

In addition to the food, the terrace will serve a selection of refreshing drinks perfect for summer sipping. Highlights include the Lasdun Summer Cup, a sophisticated twist on the British classic with Sipsmith London Cup, strawberries, cucumber, and mint, and Elderflower Tom Collins, blending gin with lemon and elderflower for a tickling refreshment. Guests can also enjoy a range of English sparkling wines from Nyetimber, served both by the bottle and by the glass.

Lasdun, which first opened its doors at the National Theatre in May 2023, is the brainchild of Jon Rotheram, Tom Harris, and John Ogier, who first collaborated at St. John before reuniting to launch The Marksman in 2015. The restaurant’s name is a tribute to Denys Lasdun, the architect behind the National Theatre’s iconic Modernist building. With the addition of the terrace, Lasdun is set to provide a new al fresco dining experience that maximizes its prime riverside location.

The terrace, directly accessible from the Southbank, will accommodate 60 guests and operate from 12:00pm until dusk, Monday to Sunday, until its closing on 22nd September. This seasonal offering is not just an expansion of space but an invitation to experience British dining under the sun, in one of London’s most iconic settings.
