The Good Front Room overhauls menu with pan-Caribbean sharing plates from £12
The Good Front Room, the Caribbean restaurant in Dalston Square, east London, has just launched a revised menu, replacing its conventional starter-and-main structure with two categories of sharing dishes and widening its regional focus beyond Jamaican cooking.
The permanent site at 1 Thomas Tower opened in February 2026, following a residency at The Langham hotel run by the restaurant’s founder, the late chef Dom Taylor. The kitchen is now led by head chef Amani Garcia, who worked alongside Taylor and whose background combines professional kitchen training with experience in photography, videography and editing.
Under the new format, dishes are divided into Lickle Plates and Big Plates. Lickle Plates are grouped into three sections: Caribbean Sea, Caribbean Garden and Caribbean Fire Pit. Dishes listed include Escovitch Soft Shell Crab, Peach Mango Peppered Prawns, Trinidadian Doubles, Guyanese Poulourie Skewers, Pepperpot Sliders and Jerk Chicken with plantain jam. Big Plates include Brown Stew Short Rib with rice and peas, a Guadeloupe-inspired Colombo de Poulet, Green Seasoning and Tamarind Grilled Sea Bass, and Balanjay served with coconut white rice.
Prices for Lickle Plates begin at £12. Rather than arriving in a fixed sequence of courses, dishes will be served as they are prepared, allowing diners to order a small number of plates alongside drinks, share across the table or assemble a larger meal. The format and pricing suit a range of occasions, from shorter midweek meals to larger group bookings.
While Jamaican cooking remains central to the restaurant, the revised menu draws on a broader range of Caribbean cuisines and traditions, including those of Guyana, Trinidad and Guadeloupe. Several dishes and flavours associated with Taylor have been retained, providing continuity between the Langham residency and the current restaurant.
Taylor won Channel 4’s Five Star Kitchen: Britain’s Next Great Chef with The Good Front Room concept before taking it to The Langham in 2023, where his contemporary approach to Caribbean cooking reached a wider audience. The name refers to his great aunt Myrtle and to the front rooms traditionally reserved for special guests in Caribbean households.
