Rex Delicatessen in Mayfair launches new bistro menu

The Rex Delicatessen, a project at the heart of Mayfair that opened its doors in January 2024, is broadening its gastronomic appeal with the launch of a new bistro menu. Located at 38 Bruton Place, this Grade II listed former Victorian stable has been transformed into a charming dining spot by Chef Larry Jayasekara, known for his work at the upscale restaurant The Cocochine.

The introduction of the bistro menu marks a significant expansion from the deli’s original offerings, catering to both the local Mayfair residents and visitors. The new menu, available from 11th September, features a selection of elevated British classics such as Shepherd’s Pie and Grilled Lamb Chops, complemented by sides like Miso Glazed Potatoes and the vibrant Gardens Salad with House Dressing. The deli has also expanded its drinks selection, now offering a variety of wines by the glass alongside snacks such as Tosi Gorgonzola with Apple Chutney.

Chef Jayasekara, who oversaw the restoration of the building, emphasised the deli’s commitment to high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. “We want The Rex Deli to be a place that meets the needs of both the Mayfair residents and those who work in and visit the area,” Jayasekara stated. “At The Cocochine, we offer à la carte fine dining, whereas The Rex Deli has focused on deli items until now. It’s great to be able to round out the offering of Bruton Place with a bistro menu that is casual but exquisite, fully expressing our ethos and commitment to exceptional ingredients.”

The deli sources its produce from regenerative farmlands of the Rowler Estate in Northamptonshire and the seas surrounding Tanera Mòr in Scotland’s Inner Hebrides.

In addition to the evening bistro service, The Rex Delicatessen will continue to offer its daytime menu of coffees, snacks, and take-home options. The space is also available for private evening gatherings.

The Rex Delicatessen has introduced the 2024 festive hampers filled with gourmet treats crafted by Jayasekara and his team. These include Miso Caramel Cookies, Mince Pies, and Aubin’s Pain d’épices. For those seeking an extra touch of luxury, Champagne and Caviar can be added to the order.
