Mr Fogg’s Pawnbrokers in Soho introduces Topsy Turvy Tea, a cocktail-centric twist on traditional afternoon tea

Mr Fogg’s Pawnbrokers in Soho has recently introduced a novel mixology experience called Topsy Turvy Tea, flipping the idea of afternoon tea on its head. Radically transforming traditional afternoon tea by prioritising cocktails over tea and presenting small bites to complement the concoctions, the concept aims to blur the lines between food and drink, offering guests an unexpected and one-of-a-kind sensory journey.

The experience, set in the venue’s Strong Room amidst antique décor and jewels, includes three specially crafted cocktails, a shot of prosecco, and a selection of bite-sized canapés that creatively invert typical afternoon tea elements: glasses of alcoholic or non-alcoholic libations normally associated with what you would eat, sided by canapé style treats that one would normally drink. For instance, the Upside-Down Martini is inspired by a cucumber sandwich, and it features Bombay Sapphire Premier Cru gin, St Germain elderflower liqueur, Martini Riserva Speciale Ambrato vermouth, cucumber juice, olive oil, sea salt, and foamer bitters. This drink is paired with mini Earl Grey tea-infused chicken and mayonnaise sandwiches next to Lapsang Souchong tea-infused egg and cress sandwiches.

Another highlight is The Jammy Treat, a cocktail based on the traditional scone, jam, and cream. It includes Grey Goose L’Original vodka, Chambord black raspberry liqueur, Lillet Rose wine-based aperitif, chocolate cookie, popcorn and caramel syrup, and raspberry jam, accompanied by freshly baked miniature scones with strawberry jam and champagne cream.

And there’s more: the Choco-Topsy Brownie is a blend of Patrón Silver tequila, Cointreau orange liqueur, crème de cacao brown liqueur, chocolate syrup, and orange and chocolate bitters. The Topsy Turvy Tea experience also includes a sipping shot of prosecco paired with passionfruit macarons, for an extra layer of indulgence.

This inventive approach – a hallmark of Mr Fogg’s brand – to drink and dining not only challenges traditional norms but also caters to a growing interest in experiences that offer more than just sustenance, focusing on the adventure and joy of eating and drinking.
