Cape Grace and London’s Savoy Hotel to host collaborative afternoon tea in Cape Town, blending British and South African flavours

Cape Grace Hotel in Cape Town is hosting a limited-edition afternoon tea this August in collaboration with London’s Savoy Hotel, bringing together culinary teams from both establishments. The event, titled The Savoy Afternoon Tea at Cape Grace, will take place at Heirloom, Cape Grace’s flagship restaurant, on selected dates throughout the month. The initiative aims to blend British afternoon tea traditions with South African culinary influences, marking a rare partnership between two Fairmont-managed properties that are both known for their historic significance and luxury hospitality offerings.

The collaboration will feature three chefs from The Savoy, including John Almeida (of The Great British Bake Off: The Professionals). He will be joined by South African-born sous chef Liesl Booysen, and Dylan Martin, originally from Johannesburg and currently based at The Savoy’s Gallery Restaurant. Together with the Cape Grace team, they will design and prepare a seasonal menu using local ingredients, while maintaining the signature style associated with the London venue. Offerings will include a mix of British and South African elements, such as Coronation Chicken sandwiches, Franschhoek Smoked Trout and raisin scones served with clotted cream. Desserts will feature The Savoy’s well-known Strawberries and Cream Cake.

Reservations are required for the tea, which will be served twice daily at 12.30pm and 3pm on 7th to 10th August, 14th to 17th August, 21st to 24th August and 28th to 31st August. The experience is priced at £27 per person and includes a glass of sparkling wine, with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available.
