The Porter’s Table opens in Covent Garden with grill-focused British fare at Guinness Open Gate Brewery
The Porter’s Table, a new seasonal, grill-focused restaurant led by executive chef Pip Lacey, has opened its doors in Covent Garden. The restaurant, within the recently launched Guinness Open Gate Brewery at Old Brewer’s Yard, began welcoming diners last June with the aim of bringing guests together over British fare in a casual, convivial setting.
Pip Lacey, previously of Murano and Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, heads the kitchen. The Porter’s Table is one of two dining establishments within the Guinness Open Gate Brewery, which occupies a historic site in the West End. The restaurant offers lunch and dinner in a roomy setting for both brewery visitors and the general public.
The menu features a range of market-inspired plates and grill-led mains. Starters include Roast Bone Marrow with Miso and Baron Bigod Cheese Gratinée, Cold-cut Roasted Stuffed Pork Belly with Baked Leeks and No Waste Piccalilli and Lager-battered Frickles as beer snacks. Mains highlight British meats and fish, such as Cumbrian Free-range Pork Chop, 35-day Aged Norfolk Rib Eye Steak with Guinness and Green Peppercorn and Line-caught Cornish Hake. The restaurant adopts a whole-animal butchery approach, exemplified by The Butcher’s Skewer, which features changing cuts from in-house butchery.
Desserts are fun and creative. There’s a Three Stouts of Guinness Cake with chocolate caramel, cream cheese and oat brittle, Bitter Orange Soufflé Glacé with cognac and cardamom crème anglaise, and Roast Pear with rosemary, chilli pecans and vanilla ice cream.
Beer is a central element of the dining experience, with pints served directly from the on-site microbrewery. The selection, overseen by master brewer Hollie Stephenson, includes Guinness draught, Guinness 0.0 and a rotating range of seasonal brews such as The Brewer’s Lager, Piazza Pale Ale and Hazy IPA. The drinks list also features a selection of cocktails and an extensive wine list, with both international and English wines alongside low and no-alcohol options.
The restaurant’s name pays tribute to the market porters of Covent Garden, reflecting its commitment to local sourcing and British culinary traditions. Lacey and her team collaborate with British suppliers, sourcing meats aged in West London, day-boat fish from British waters, and vegetables from surrounding counties.
The Guinness Open Gate Brewery also houses Gilroy’s Loft, a rooftop seafood restaurant, and Old Brewer’s Yard, which offers craft beers and handmade pies. The Porter’s Table is open to all guests, regardless of whether they are participating in a brewery tour.
