Heron and Lamb: jewellery inspired by the woodlands

Have you ever been out for a walk in the country and seen a beautiful flower that you’d like to own? Well with Heron and Lamb jewellery you can do just that.HL babys breath terrarium necklace

Raven Locadia is the creative genius behind the label. Ever since she was a child she was always interested in art and learning about different mediums to express herself artistically. She grew up on the Gulf Coast in Naples, Florida, and was always fascinated by incorporating art into nature because it was easily accessible and transferred so beautifully into jewellery. She went to college in Marquette where she made nature-based jewellery on a small scale for extra financial support while she was studying. HL Woodland Moss Terrarium Necklace

Marquette was the prime location for foraging material for her jewellery. It’s surrounded by woods and nestled on Lake Superior, so she always felt inspired by the moss, lake stones, bark and foliage. After she graduated, Raven moved to Miami Beach, Florida, where she started Heron and Lamb from her dining room table. Every technique she learned was self-taught, from glasswork to metalsmithing. The brand initially started off with whimsical pieces infused with preserved botanicals and vintage lace under glass. However, within a few months, she had a large wholesale order with a major online retailer, and she was able to move from Miami to Chicago and devote herself full-time to Heron and Lamb. HL peacock feather orb

Her pieces now incorporate preserved elements from nature, USA sourced gemstones and recycled lace to create works that evoke feelings of nostalgia and ardour from regional history in the Americas. The consistent use of moss and preserved flora indicate a sense of delicacy and preservation from the pacific and Midwest woodlands. The use of vintage lace reborn through various artistic mediums reflects the romantic candour of the Antebellum era of the deep south. US-sourced quartz and turquoise set in copper, bronze and silver is influenced by the Native American style of jewellery from the 1850s.HL Purple Caspia Necklace

The pieces are truly lovely to look at and you’re spoilt for choice when trying to pick an item. All the glass orbs in the collection are beautiful and you can choose from Babys Breath Terrarium Necklace, Woodland Moss Terrarium Necklace, Peacock Feather Orb or the Purple Caspia Necklace.

But what inspired Raven in her latest collection? “A lot of the inspiration for the collections is a reflection of simpler times throughout the country when survival and artistic expression depended on the country’s natural resources.”

So next time you’re out in the country or your nearest woods, it will be great to know that you can wear a piece of nature while admiring it as well.
