Hundreds of onlookers filled the incredible One Mayfair this afternoon for Julien Macdonald’s highly-anticipated autumn/winter 2016 collection.
Soft beams of white light shot up to the double height ceiling of the breathtaking church-like venue as punchy music kicked in, ensuring each member of the audience was on the edge of their seat. A stream of models appeared in extravagant sequin, feather and lace gowns, briskly strutting in time with the piercing beat. Dazzling, red carpet-ready dresses ranged from mini to full-length, with a constant tight-fitted silhouette.
Amid the sea of sparkle, cut-out detailing, thigh-high slits and intricate laddering were recurrent – often leaving little to the imagination – and a sophisticated colour palette of white, red, black and gold was particularly effective in ombré form. Menswear was integrated into the collection, with outfits complementing the dominant women; double breasted jackets, sequinned blazers and laddered shirts were bursting at the seams.
As expected, Macdonald ended his catwalk with a bride, accompanied by a young usher and flower girl. The enchanting wedding dress featured a Bardot neckline, lace bodice and sleeves, and a playful, feathered hem. In keeping with other outfits, this look was completed with multi-buckle heels that had an almost gladiatorial feel, and beautiful iridescent make-up.
Undoubtedly his grandest show yet, Julien Macdonald has made a monumental return to London Fashion Week.
