Attraction presents The Box at the London Palladium

Have you ever pondered what is waiting in the shadows? It’s worth watching.

Theatre-goers at the London Palladium were treated to a special performance on Thursday evening from Britain’s Got Talent champions Attraction. The shadow theatre group presented the world première of their first full-length show to a sell-out audience. The Box was a poignant, amusing, attractive piece of work exploring the turmoil of life and love and the endurance of the human race.  

Beautifully choreographed by founder Zoltan Szucs and his talented troupe, the production delves into an array of themes from war to childhood to love. The ultimate message conveyed is that human experiences can twist and turn unpredictably, inducing fear and struggle, yet generations of people have triumphed with hope and relationships forged.   

Attraction’s first full-length show succeeded in taking the audience on an emotional journey with impressive creative techniques. Each scene was a mini performance itself, elegantly weaving together the stories of three generations of women. The audience laughed and cried whilst watching the characters’ lost loves, frightening obstacles and friendships. Through intelligent use of shadow puppetry, video mapping and inventive dance, it was easy to become hooked. The show’s black-light theatre routines were a particular highlight, used for dream-like sequences that both entertained and amazed with bright colours and mysterious movements.

What is clear from their performance is that Attraction put their heart and soul into their productions. Each sequence had been carefully conceived and every intricate shadow that the group conjured left viewers wondering: how they had managed to morph their bodies into a series of landscapes, animals and other wonderful shapes? This one-night performance proved that the group’s storytelling skills are more than capable of a full-length production and, following the well-received premiere of The Box, we look forward to more.
