There is definitely an organic, avant-garde feel to the designs of Dumpty, the sartorial brainchild of a post-90s duo who today presented their latest collection at Freemasons’ Hall for London Fashion Week.

As experts in manipulating shapes and textures for unexpected results, the designers showcased a collection characterised by oversized, slouchy fits and nonchalantly layered separates . The standard silhouettes of basic separates were dynamically distorted by the way fabric was tucked and folded for a sculpted, architectural finish.The colour palette – a combination of earthy tones and black with just the occasional splash of sky blue – reflected Dumpty’s focus on natural fabrics, as well as their respect for the “natural” world in general. Quirky detailing, such as belts and necklaces formed of long strands of rope, softened the more architectural pieces and added an organic twist to the outfits.A repeated motif throughout the collection was a stylised sketch of a grinning, skull-like face that appeared scrawled across jackets, coats and shirts. Meanwhile, sharp cut-outs in the shoulders of dresses or wide rips in trousers added an edgy, almost aggressive vibe.A distinctive, memorable set of clothes that indicated just how confident Dumpty’s designers are when it comes to what their label is all about.
