Video games based on movies

Though we eagerly anticipate them, we’re often fairly disappointed by film adaptations of our best-loved video games. But perhaps it works better in reverse. Sometimes, once you’ve watched a movie you love, it’s great to look at it from a different angle – from inside. A lot of companies also release games along with their features to offer fans a range of immersive experiences and give them the chance to play some of their favourite characters in places across the universe.

Goldeneye 007

Based on the 17^th Bond feature, this 1997 first-person shooter game where players could be 007 himself or battle others in a deathmatch is a classic, and introduced a whole new audience to the films. Originally produced for the Nintendo 64 some argue that it’s the best video game of all time, though other fans would say it hasn’t aged so well.

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

A game released in 2003 to coincide with the third movie of the trilogy, Return of the King is of the hack and slash action genre. Gamers can form their very own fellowship, choose from three different paths on their journey through Middle Earth and fight all of Tolkien’s creatures a lot quicker than his characters did in the film.

Star Wars Battlefront

Here is the gamer’s chance to enter a galaxy far, far away and join the Galactic Empire or the Rebel Alliance, playing in either first or third person view, where there’s always a time and a place to use the force. Following on from previous series accompanying the original movies, this current series appears to be as unstoppable as the film franchise itself.

Lego Avengers

As well as bringing us their humorous and successful film adaptations of some DC names, Lego have also given movie fans the chance to be part of the team of the most powerful superheroes in the world. This 2016 game is full of puzzle-solving to test your brain, plenty of action sequences and is brimming with characters from the Marvel comic books.

Of course, there are many more games that are based on characters from movies or comics, like Spider-Man, who has had a good few games with another said to be coming out sometime this year; also the famous Harry Potter, adventurer Indiana Jones and the legendary Judge Dredd. In the end, storytelling in all its forms is important and these video game adaptations play to our desire to be our superheroes and enter their worlds.
