British mockumentary Swede Caroline follows a competitive giant vegetable grower called Caroline (Jo Hartley), who loses out in the National Vegetable championships due to a hairline crack in her prize-worthy marrows. When the harvest is stolen in a late-night raid, her determination to retrieve it leads her into all sorts of unexpected and ridiculous escapades.

The film becomes not only a comedy-driven feature, but one filled with plenty of brilliantly British nuances too as the cast flit between iconic locations like fish and chip shops, allotments and grimy service stations.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of hearing from the cast and creatives on the red carpet at Raindance Film Festival, where we chatted to Brook Driver and Finn Bruce (writer and co-directors) about where the story came from, the brilliant cast and what they hope viewers will take away from the feature.

Jo Hartley told us about her debut leading role as Caroline, heading to Ricky Gervais for advice on her character, the more memorable moments on set and working with the directors and her co-stars.

We spoke to Celyn Jones about the lighter side of his role as Willy, the emotional elements of the feature and working alongside Hartley.

Rebekah Murell talked about how she got involved in the project, the brilliant moments on set and acting alongside such an ensemble cast and team of creatives.

Mark Silcox spoke about his part in the film, bringing elements of comedy to the script and what’s next up for him.
