Clare Woods to transform Pitzhanger Manor with new exhibition Garden Without Seasons

British artist and Royal Academician Clare Woods will present 29 new and recent works at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery this summer in Garden Without Seasons, a major exhibition of paintings, collages and prints created over the past four years. Running from 29th July to 8th November, the show will see Woods’s vivid, fluid works displayed throughout the historic west London house and gallery.

Best known for her distinctive wet-on-wet oil paintings, Woods draws inspiration from photographs of flowers, everyday objects and landscapes, creating compositions that shift between abstraction and representation. The exhibition centres on the flora and still lifes she returned to during the pandemic, when familiar surroundings took on renewed significance, while also exploring themes of time, memory, absence and mortality.

Among the highlights is Under the Dome (2024), a monumental painting inspired by Kew Gardens’ Temperate House, alongside new works responding to the architecture, interiors and gardens of Pitzhanger Manor. A selection of collages and prints will also be on display, offering insight into Woods’s creative process, in which leftover paint from her canvases is repurposed into intricately layered paper works.

The exhibition marks the latest chapter in Woods’s three-decade career. Elected a Royal Academician in 2022, her work is held in major collections including the Arts Council Collection, the Government Art Collection and the Royal Collection Trust. Garden Without Seasons also continues Pitzhanger Manor’s programme of pairing Sir John Soane’s historic home with exhibitions by leading contemporary artists.
