Vogue to launch a new teen version: Miss Vogue

Following suit of rival magazine Elle and its sister edition in the states, British Vogue is releasing a mini version of itself for mini fashionistas. The first ever Miss Vogue will embody the same inspirational and authoritative voice, which Vogue is renowned for alongside a new feature: budget awareness. The 124-page magazine targets a younger audience and will speak to the creative spirit of young women who love fashion and beauty, and are trying to find their signature look. 

“All of us are really excited at the opportunity to create a slightly different Vogue for this readership,” said Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman. “We know how much they love the magazine and so I wanted to produce something that would have bespoke content for a younger audience.”

Whilst excitement stirs among the magazine’s target audience, mental health and body image campaigners worry that the magazine will not take a responsible approach when representing air-brushed models. 

Currently, the iconic British Vogue has a strict policy, which excludes the use of models under the age of 16. Whether this will be wavered for the teen edition is not yet known.

Leanne Thorndyke, spokeswoman for the B-eat eating disorder charity told the Guardian: “We know the media, fashion industry or advertising do not directly cause eating disorders – they are more complex than that – but it is a powerful influence, which could become part of the solution, rather than being blamed for the problem.” 

Miss Vogue will be released on 6^th May alongside Vogue’s June issue as a double package at no additional cost.
