Fashion and art combine in Maiden-Art’s jewellery

Fashion and art combine in Maiden-Art’s jewellery

Italian jewellery brand Maiden-Art is a brand with a difference. It may be a phrase that’s used a lot, but there really is something special about it. Each piece is handmade by talented Italian craftsmen, and created using only the best materials. However, its real unique selling point is Maiden-Art’s founder and chief designer Maristella Colombo.

Colombo explains that Maiden-Art means “pure art” or “to dress the art”. Her world is formed of research, innovative ideas and irony, which are conveyed in her work. Rather than a jewellery designer, Colombo sees herself as an artist and jewellery just happens to be her medium of choice. The jewellery produced is just as creative as if it was photograph, video art or a performance. She explains: “Maiden-Art is not only about fashion, but it’s the result of the fusion between art and experimentation.” Each piece is designed for and inspired by the natural elegance, sophistication and glamour of Italian women – with each item being exclusive to Maiden-Art.

The SS13 collection of jewellery and accessories is created to emulate light and colour. Entitled Flowers of Light, the range includes various precious metals and stones such as opal, agate, onyx and coral on a selection of pendants and polished chains. Inspiration for the collection comes from a union of different styles such as the exotic colours of Morocco with the sophisticated glamour of Italy. The range is a collation of simple and complex shapes, rose gold and silver-plated chains, natural stones and pendants in the shape of starfish, shells, coins and feathers.

Already a favourite with fashion editors, Maiden-Art has been named as one of Vogue Italia’s Emerging Designers and was chosen as the brand to represent Made in Italy at the prestigious International Exhibition IFF Tokyo 2011. Last year, Colombo was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Young Entrepreneurs of the province of Novara, receiving an award for her work and for spreading a Made in Italy product around the world.
