Autumn at Agent Provocateur has begun

The seasons are changing rapidly this summer but at Agent Provocateur the short days and long dark nights are here to stay with the launch of their Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. The Upcoming popped into a boutique to try for itself.

The gothic, Victorian inspired campaign film starring Monica Cruz constructs a story about a mysterious woman who reveals the seductress inside her when posing for a magical camera. As winter approaches and we start layering up, the new collection is an encouragement to wear an Agent Provocateur set close to us like a secret until it’s time to undress. Over the past decade the brand has gone from cult to luxury, and this campaign is a comforting reminder of its seedy Soho roots.

The collection is a grown-up gothic mix of blacks, reds and pinks, with one flash of bright colour: the phenomenally popular Margot, done in electric blue. As well as Margot, there are a few other tried, tested and now improved-upon collections, such as Joseline in black with the satisfying additions of a deep suspender belt and ouvert. Not to mention the simple non-underwired Esme in subtle leopard print. Like a lot of Agent Provocateur’s lingerie, the items that look a little complicated need to be tried on before judgement is passed. What can look unimpressive on the hanger can transform on the body.

There are a few obvious safe options like the irresistibly pretty Verronika, all delicate black tulle and lavender lace. A slightly seen-it-before style called Darla proved, on trying, to be utterly flattering, a gorgeous pink and black style with corset lacing, and also reminiscent of that vintage Agent Provocateur look. The bondage style Whitney turned out to fit quite comfortably. The only style that remained mildly unconvincing was the Alexus playsuit with its equestrian tie and pin. However there may be dedicated horse riders out there who will really dig it.

Agent Provocateur always carry a few pieces of outerwear for the more daring and dominant of dressers, and this season is no exception. Choose between soft lace-trimmed Morrigan and the Thora power-dress with its flash of red silk at the back. And there’s more to look forward to throughout the season. Watch out for the nude bandage style Leah corset and the fishnet finished Ilya set. There’s plenty to look forward to this winter.

Visit the website here to take a look at the film. The collection is in store now.
