Beauty trends: A/W 2012/13 make-up

Beauty trends: A/W 2012/13 make-up

Autumn/winter make-up trends are as exciting as the fashion that goes with them. From timeless classics to seasonal fads, we love them all, and can’t wait to give even the most ridiculous styles a go, even if it is just for 10 minutes in the privacy of our bedrooms. Autumn 2013/13 catwalks were no different, with some pretty eccentric looks.

Look 1: Red lips

The classic look that just keeps coming back. Whilst ruby red lipstick may feel a bit OTT in the heat of summer, winter is the time to embrace the brightness. Catwalks styled the look alone, or with minimal makeup for a more dramatic effect, but for the not-so-brave, just add it to your usual look for a sweep of sophistication. Darker, vermillion shades are also a hug look this winter for fans of a more gothic look.

Look 2: White

From eye shadows to contouring, white make-up was a popular choice in A/W’12 catwalks. Left alone, it’s great for an icy winter look reminiscent of Tilda Swinton’s White Witch look in Narnia. Alternatively team with coloured liner to add contrast to the colour pop trend.

Look 3: Statement eyebrows

A huge look for 2012, bold brows have been adopted by all, giving us yet another reason to envy Cara Delevigne, whose natural pair were almost made for this year’s trend. Thick brows are perfect for winter, and Chanel even incorporated headdress fashions into a two in one look, with sequin-embellished eyebrows in the A/W’12 runway.

Look 4: Cat flicks

Another timeless look, cat flicks are constantly being renewed. Heavy black flicks, honouring Amy Winehouse’s signature look, are always a favourite for fans of dramatic eyes. Try angular shapes, split lines and cut creases for added individuality to the classic cat-eye trend.

Look 5: Smudgy eyes

Like the anti-smoky eye look, smudgy eyes simply involve blending make-up under the eye rather than on the lid. The desired effect emulates that dreaded morning after/just cried look. We’ve all wished that it could be passed as a fashion statement as we stumble home, but can it really be pulled off? A/W’12 thinks so!

Though we’re sad to say goodbye to summer, we’re not going to miss that shiny, sweaty look that comes with even a hint of our regular foundations. It’s time to bring back a full face of glam.
