Motel reveals monochrome collection

It’s a colour revolt this season, and Brit brand Motel is leading the pack with its suitably greyscale print collection. Not exactly synonymous with Spring/Summer, monochrome has emerged as a strong, subversive shift from the sugary pastels of last year. Contrast is key, and the trend calls for a resurgence of the popular graphic prints of the sixties. First seen at Marc Jacobs, and later adopted by Alice Temperly, Balmain Resort and Louis Vuitton, this season’s black and white prints make a bold statement in stripes, checkerboards and polka dots.

As a brand already compatible with this classic colour palette, namely from the iconic black and white stripe Jordan jeans, Motel introduces a monochromatic collection that combines catwalk inspiration with signature silhouettes for a fun and punchy new range. The new Italiano print features heavily across the collection, combining harlequin diamonds and striped inserts to art deco perfection. Even the classic Jordan jeans have been updated with an Italiano make-over, ideal for anyone lusting after Balmain S/S 13.

Known for its ability to turn catwalk trends into wearable, flattering and affordable pieces, Motel have excelled in walking the line between femininity and fashion. The Robyn polkadot dress, in signature figure-hugging style, makes for an easy and affordable way to adopt the trend. Our favourite piece is the striped Bon Bon jumper – a bolder take on the classic Breton with all the style credentials of Marc Jacob’s mainline New York collection.
