LFW – Ashish S/S 2014 collection
Just when we felt our caffeine buzz wearing off from the seventh latte of the day, Ashish picked us up with an upbeat sequined sportswear parade that had the crowds ooh-ing and ahh-ing at the reveal of every look.
Despite the designer’s Delhiite roots, the collection was a true ode to Americana. The Coca-Cola logo was scattered throughout, accompanied by red, white and blue detailing and denim. Mixed animal prints and monochromatic zig-zags were the icing on top – all covered in sequins, of course. Colourful stencil-dyed hair and chunky tribal jewellery accessorised the collection in a such a playful way that we found ourselves childishly grinning from ear-to-ear while bopping our heads to a soundtrack of Madonna and Janet Jackson.
We’re still shaking our heads in pure disbelief from the neon-sequined supermarket bags with a variety of fruit poking from out the top. The show closed on a tender note where two models, one female and one male, walked the runway together holding hands in matching tribal crowns. As if that wasn’t enough, they shared a kiss atop the runway and the crowd erupted in a harmonious “awwwh”.
Through his spring/summer 2014 collection, Ashish encapsulated the true beauty behind fashion, specifically London fashion. He reminded us of the importance of having fun and a sense of humour with our dressings – something London fashionistas are known for and well accustomed to. The show’s light-hearted atmosphere proved that throughout the fast-paced, ever-changing ways of the industry, one thing has remained the same: the more sequins, the better.
