The Curious Needle: bringing fun to your make-up bag
The Curious Needle was created by Emma Bourke. She lives in the west of Ireland with her husband and two children. Her love of crafts began at a young age, but sewing was something that she took up after her first child was born. After years of being a stay-at-home mum, she decided to take a chance on opening a shop. She works from her home studio, often with her toddler pottering about. Her Etsy shop has helped Emma reach every corner of the globe and she’s always amazed at the far-reaching places her bags go to.
Emma created the business after a fruitless search to find the perfect make-up bag. She made a make-up bag for herself and gradually interest grew from family and friends. In 2013 The Curious Needle opened for business. The label sells make-up bags and pencil cases. Emma’s love of fun patterns, quirky designs and general nerdiness come together to form a range of zip pouches that reflect her customers’ similar interests. All the fabrics are 100% cotton and are sourced from the USA, which allows Emma to get the most exciting and current range of designs. Each piece is hand-cut and machine-sewn with extra attention to detail, to ensure she creates a bag that is truly special and yet, practical.
The make-up bags are really fun and totally different. The Horror make-up bag will remind you of the horror films from the 30s and 40s. If you’re a Doctor Who fan (who isn’t?) then you will need this make-up bag in your life. For animal lovers, this fox print make-up bag is fab! If you love Disney, you will definitely want this Little Mermaid make-up bag – so cute! These are just a few of the products that Emma sells. You will struggle to pick just one that you like.
What inspires such an eclectic range of make-up bags? “My love of pattern and design inspires me every day. I firmly believe in the importance of making things that inject joy into their owners’ daily lives.” One thing is for sure, these bags certainly inject fun.
