The Ledbury named best restaurant in the UK for 2024

The Ledbury named best restaurant in the UK for 2024

The Ledbury in Notting Hill has been crowned the Best Restaurant in the UK for 2024, reclaiming a title it last held from 2010 to 2012. This accolade comes as part of the National Restaurant Awards, which highlighted London’s dominance in the UK’s culinary scene, with the majority of the awards going to the capital. The Ledbury, which reopened in 2022, was recently honoured with three stars in the 2024 Michelin guide, a testament to its exceptional seasonal cooking and commitment to high quality ingredients.

Chef Brett Graham, originally from Australia, and his team have been praised for their produce-led dishes, which are not only visually striking but grounded in a down-to-earth approach that prioritises flavour over flamboyance.

In other notable achievements, the second place and the Highest New Entry award were given to Tomos Parry’s Soho restaurant Mountain, celebrated for its fusion of Welsh heritage and Basque cuisine. Adejoké Bakare, head chef at Chishuru, was named Chef of the Year, marking a significant milestone as last February she became the first black woman in the UK to earn a Michelin star.

For the first time, a pub, The Devonshire in Soho, was recognised as the Opening of the Year, signaling a shift in the awards to embrace a broader range of dining experiences. The pub also won Gastropub of the Year, showcasing its wood-fired culinary approach and exemplary butchery.

The awards also celebrated individuals and ventures for their contributions to the industry. Michel Roux was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his influence on the UK’s food industry, while The Bull Inn in Totnes received the Sustainability Award for its commitment to ethical and sustainable practices.

The ceremony, held at The Magazine London, not only recognised individual and collective achievements within the UK’s vibrant restaurant scene but also underscored the capital’s continued culinary preeminence. A total of 53 London-based restaurants made it to the top 100 list, reflecting the city’s diverse and dynamic dining landscape. The National Restaurant Awards, as voted by leading chefs, restaurateurs, and food writers, continues to celebrate the excellence and innovation that define the British gastronomy.
