Ottolenghi launches five new pantry staples at Waitrose

Celebrity chef and food writer Yotam Ottolenghi has partnered with Waitrose to launch five new pantry products available in stores across the UK, as well as in Ottolenghi delis and online from 27th May. The new additions to the Ottolenghi range include three marinades, a pesto and a Yemeni-inspired spice paste, with the aim of providing home cooks with convenient ways of achieving bold, complex flavours without extensive preparation.

Ottolenghi commented: “I’m really excited about these new pantry additions, launching in both the UK and Australia. These are the jars I reach for in my own kitchen when I want depth and flavour without spending hours at the stove. The marinades, the pesto, the spice blend – they all started as practical solutions in our test kitchen. Hawaij is a particular favourite of mine – I’ve been using it for years in everything from roasted vegetables to evening stews. I’m super curious to see what people do with them.”

These latest products were developed by Ottolenghi and his Test Kitchen team following the positive reception for their initial product line, which debuted in 2024. The range is designed to be used straight from the jar to replicate restaurant-style flavours for those without the time to cook from scratch.

The five new offerings are all packaged in 180g jars, with prices ranging from £4.50 to £5.25. They include a Calabrian Chilli & Tomato Pesto (made with hickory-smoked tomatoes and Calabrian chillies, and intended for use in pasta dishes, soups or as a topping for toast and eggs), a Hawaij Paste (blending ginger, cardamom, turmeric, cinnamon and cloves for a ready-to-use alternative to the traditional Yemeni spice mix), and the three marinades: Black Garlic & Scotch Bonnet (which combines fermented black garlic and Scotch bonnet chillies), Smokey Honey (featuring caraway, chipotle chilli and smoked paprika) and Preserved Lemon (with preserved lemons, herbs and olive oil, designed to complement both meat and vegetable dishes).

Adrian Gash, Table Sauce Buyer at Waitrose, said: “We’re delighted to introduce new additions to our Ottolenghi range. These pantry staples offer an accessible way to discover new and emerging cuisines and bring artisanal quality ingredients to our customers’ kitchens. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or simply love great food, these additions provide an opportunity for food lovers to experiment with global flavours, explore emerging cuisines, and elevate their meals.”
