ScandiKitchen opens second London café in Victoria

Scandinavian café and food retailer ScandiKitchen has opened a new location in Victoria, London, offering a menu of Nordic dishes and bakery items. The opening comes 18 years after the business first launched in Fitzrovia, and is led by founders Brontë and Jonas Aurell, a Danish-Swedish husband-and-wife team who have been serving Scandi cuisine to Londoners since 2007.

The Victoria site mirrors the original Fitzrovia café’s format, providing both takeaway and dine-in options in a relaxed, informal setting. The café opens from 7.30am and caters for breakfast, lunch and the traditional Swedish coffee break known as fika. The morning menu includes coffee, tea, homemade porridge with fruit and berry toppings, overnight oats and Swedish-style cinnamon buns.

For lunch, ScandiKitchen offers a range of open sandwiches, including Nordic smoked salmon with pickled fennel, sweet pickled herring and Swedish meatballs with beetroot salad. The menu also features daily changing specials and a selection of salads, such as Scandi-Style Potato Salad and Super Slaw. Hot dishes include the café’s popular Swedish Meatballs, served with salad or mash, as well as hot dogs. An assortment of homemade cakes and biscuits – among them, Love Cakes and Dream Cakes – is available throughout the day.

The Aurells arrived in the UK 25 years ago and identified a demand for authentic Scandinavian food among London’s expatriate community and beyond. In addition to their cafés, ScandiKitchen operates an e-commerce website delivering over 1,000 Scandinavian products, and supplies wholesale goods to restaurants and food businesses. ScandiKitchen has become a fixture in London’s international food scene, attracting both Scandinavians seeking familiar flavours and locals interested in Nordic cuisine. The business has weathered significant changes in the hospitality industry, including the Covid-19 pandemic, and the opening of the Victoria branch marks what the owners describe as “an exhilarating next chapter in their upward journey”.
