Wasabi launches nationwide omakase summer menu

Japanese restaurant chain Wasabi has announced the launch of a new omakase-style summer menu, available from the end of May until the end of the season, in all its branches nationwide.

The menu centres around the concept of omakase, a Japanese term meaning “I’ll leave it up to you”, where diners are served a chef-curated selection of dishes. Wasabi’s omakase box features seven tasting elements intended to provide a guided flavour experience, beginning with a light Edamame Bean Salad and progressing to more complex Japanese and Asian-inspired dishes. The selection is accompanied by sauces such as ponzu dressing, wasabi and yuzu mayonnaise, and soya sauce.

Among the highlights is the Tuna Dragon Roll, which includes shredded cucumber and avocado, topped with thinly sliced yellowfin tuna. Other components of the box are tuna and salmon nigiri, Asian slaw, pickled daikon, and a spicy tuna inari pocket, as well as assorted hosomaki rolls with citrusy ponzu. The Omakase Box is presented in bespoke packaging with gold foiling and an embossed Tokubetsu sticker.

Florence Gardner-Hillman, Wasabi’s Food Product Developer, said: “Wasabi’s summer menu for this year was developed based on a couple of themes that we identified in the market, including specialness and unique flavours, along with experiential-led dining on the rise, we applied this to our Asian heritage as a brand. Omakase was the perfect answer to these trends, in order to allow consumers the opportunity to experience a range of sushi options. The summer menu also champions tuna that we will be bringing back into the range with a multitude of showcase products.”

Alongside the Omakase Box, the summer menu features new items such as the Jewelled Donburi—a rice bowl with diced salmon, tuna, pickled daikon, wasabi yuzu mayo, citrusy ponzu, and salmon broth pearls—as well as the Prawn Crunch Dragon Roll and California Potto. Returning favourites include the Rainbow Set, now with added tuna nigiri, and the Tuna Hosomaki.
