Gelupo celebrates 15th anniversary with free Neapolitan gelato for children during summer holidays

Soho-based Italian gelateria, Gelupo, will mark its 15th anniversary with a two-week promotion offering free gelato to children. From 18th July to 1st August, young visitors to the gelateria on Archer Street, London, will receive complimentary scoops of a special Neapolitan flavour. The initiative coincides with the start of the school summer holidays and aims to celebrate the milestone anniversary of the establishment, which first opened its doors in 2010, founded by chef Jacob Kenedy.

The featured flavour, Neapolitan, is a traditional combination of vanilla, milk chocolate and strawberry. According to the business, the recipe has roots in 19th-century Europe, originally created by the head chef of the royal Prussian household. It has since become a nostalgic favourite among many families.

Kenedy, who also runs the acclaimed Italian restaurant Bocca di Lupo located opposite Gelupo, said the offer is intended to share some birthday joy with the local community. “I can’t believe that it’s been 15 years since we first opened Gelupo, armed with nothing more than a few different flavours and the aim of serving the finest gelato this side of the Alps,” he said. “Growing up, tucking into a Neapolitan was such a treat – it still brings back nostalgic memories of seemingly endless summers. To spread some birthday joy and get into the school holiday spirit, we’re looking forward to giving out scoops on the house.”

Kenedy first learned the art of gelato-making in Bologna during a year-long period in Italy, training at Il Gelatauro. His experience led to the launch of Gelupo in 2010, which has since developed a reputation for producing handmade gelato using traditional Italian methods and ingredients.

In addition to staple flavours such as Pistachio, Ricotta and Sour Cherry, and Fresh Mint Stracciatella, Gelupo is known for its rotating menu of seasonal options. In 2021, Kenedy published his third cookbook, Gelupo Gelato: A Delectable Palette of Ice Cream Recipes, focusing exclusively on gelato.
