Roam brings seasonal farm-to-fork dining to Sandridge Barton vineyard in Devon

Roam, a new farm-to-fork restaurant, has opened at Sandridge Barton vineyard in the Dart Valley, Devon. Led by local hospitality expert Ian Alexander, the new venue began serving lunch (daily from 12pm to 4pm) from its site in the former Circa building earlier this month, with dinner service for Friday and Saturday evenings set to begin on 1st August.
The kitchen at Roam is headed by Sean Blood, formerly executive chef at St John’s Tavern in London. His cooking focuses on sustainability and seasonality, with ingredients sourced from the estate and nearby regenerative farms. The menu, which changes daily, features a range of small and large plates such as Taleggio Flatbread, Cod’s Roe with Pickled Cucumber and Dill and Dry-aged Tuna au Poivre with Leeks. Blood explains his approach is inspired by European bistros and Basque tavernas, as well as focusing on minimising waste and celebrating whole ingredients. A guest chef residency programme is also in development and is expected to bring new culinary perspectives to the kitchen throughout the year.
In line with the establishment’s aim to offer seasonal, locally sourced dishes, key suppliers include Evans Family Foods for meat, Wing of St Mawes for fish, The Husbandry School for vegetables, and Sharpham and Westcombe for cheese and charcuterie. Bread is supplied daily by Hylsten Bakery. Complementing the food offering, the drinks menu includes wines from the Sandridge Barton cellar, local craft beers from Bays Brewery, Luscombe soft drinks and a developing list of international wines.
General manager Miles Tuddenham (whose previous experience includes roles at Noble Rot, Planque, and Norman’s Café) heads up the front-of-house team, operating in a dining room that retains rustic elements from the original building, including weathered timber and ample natural light. An outdoor terrace overlooks the surrounding vineyard and Dart Valley landscape, offering a relaxed, rural setting
Speaking about the opening, Alexander commented: “We’re bringing the energy and creativity that’s reignited the UK dining scene to Sandridge Barton, combining decades of experience with a genuine respect for place and produce. Roam is a restaurant built for now – a place with purpose, flavour, and warmth. And yes, really good food.”
