Layla Bakery to open Acton location with exclusive menu and ceramics

Independent baked goods expert Layla Bakery, based in Ladbroke Grove, will open a second venue in Acton this September. Located on Churchfield Road, the new café will also showcase ceramics by Hackney-based artist Naemi Miyazu – available for purchase and also used in-store – and will operate primarily on a takeaway basis (with some limited seating available inside and outside).

Founded by Tessa Faulkner during the lockdown in 2021, Layla has built a reputation for its sourdough loaves, pastries and seasonal bakes. The Acton branch will maintain this focus while introducing several offerings exclusive to the location, including a Hazelnut Praline & Chocolate Chip Cookie, a Blackberry & Green Cardamom Bow Tie and a Roasted Hazelnut, Assembly Coffee & Dark Chocolate Pain Suisse. The bakery will also serve Sayuri Ceremonial Organic Matcha, available only at the new site, alongside its established range of speciality hot drinks from Assembly Coffee Roasters and Good & Proper Tea.

The brand works in close collaboration with a network of suppliers that includes Estate Dairy, Natoora and Original Beans Chocolate, placing a strong emphasis on seasonality and sustainability – values that will remain central in Acton. Colton Dinner, previously head baker at Ladbroke Grove, has been appointed executive baker for both locations, overseeing menu development and production at both sites. Originally from Canada and raised in Scotland, he has worked with Layla for three years and brings experience from several Michelin-starred kitchens, including The Ledbury and The Harwood Arms.

“Friends who’ve moved here often say Acton’s missing a bakery like ours,” said Faulkner. “We’re excited to bring the same care and creativity that’s made us a part of daily life in Ladbroke Grove to this side of west London.”
