Parminder Singh opens Pan-Asian restaurant Cho Asia in Putney

Parminder Singh, a former contestant on MasterChef: The Professionals 2022 and the founding head chef of Indian Accent in Mayfair, has opened a new Pan-Asian establishment in Putney, south-west London. Named Cho Asia, the restaurant began welcoming diners earlier this year at its location on Lower Richmond Road, aiming to offer a menu that reflects Singh’s international culinary background and diverse Asian influences.

The chef, who has more than 15 years’ experience working in high-end kitchens across Delhi, New York and London, is known for his refined approach to traditional flavours. His culinary career began at Delhi’s Oberoi Hotels and includes stints in kitchens ranked among the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. He has also cooked for royalty at Buckingham Palace and has appeared on a number of television programmes.

At Cho Asia, Singh presents a menu that spans the culinary traditions of India, China and Southeast Asia. Starters include Sweet and Sour Tuna Tartare, Bang Bang Cauliflower with sriracha mayo and Chilli Hoisin Duck served with pancakes. The restaurant also offers a variety of bao buns, showcasing fillings such as wild mushroom and chestnut, crispy chicken with sriracha mayo, and chilli garlic duck with pickled cucumber.

Main courses feature a mix of Indian and Chinese influences, such as Slow-braised Beef Short Rib Korma, Kolkata-style Lamb Shank and paneer baked in cherry tomato butter sauce. Chinese-inspired dishes include Lamb and Wild Mushrooms in Oyster Sauce, Wok-tossed Prawns with Sambal XO, and Garlic Pepper Mushrooms with Pak Choi. Desserts range from Sticky Toffee Pudding with vanilla ice cream to Coconut Jaggery Rice Pudding, blending British and Asian culinary traditions.

The restaurant’s drinks offering includes a wine list curated by Singh to complement the menu’s wide flavour profile, with selections from both classic and emerging wine regions. Cocktails inspired by Asian ingredients and spice routes are also available, along with alcohol-free alternatives.

Cho Asia’s interior design draws inspiration from Asian street markets and izakayas, creating an immersive dining experience within the local neighbourhood. The restaurant’s name, “Cho”, meaning “to choose,” reflects its philosophy of offering diners a variety of options across Asia’s diverse food cultures.
