Royal Academy of Music to host Scones & Sonatas with Irène Duval and Mishka Rushdie Momen this Sunday

This weekend the Royal Academy of Music is hosting an evening of Scones & Sonatas – a volin and piano recital with an extended champagne cream tea interval in the David Josefowitz Recital Hall.

Violinist Irène Duval will team up with Mishka Rushdie Momen (piano) to present a programme of masterworks and shorter pieces spanning the Classical and Romantic repertoire. The concert will begin with Beethoven’s Spring Sonata, journeying through Brahms in G Major, a Schubert Fantasy and an arrangement of two pieces for clarinet by lesser known 19th century female composer Clémence de Grandval – in keeping with Duval’s strong interest in combining works central to the repertoire with little-known gems.

Both musicians have been singled out by Bachtrack as names to watch out for in 2026. Rushdie Momen is hailed by The Times as “one of the most thoughtful and sensitive of British pianists”, while the BBC’s Charlotte Gardner has described Duval as having “poised, fearless energy, chamber intelligence and musical finesse”.

The salon-style concert is the inaugural event of the Stephen Cottage Salon Recitals series, which will focus on intimate experiences with excellent music and food, inspired by 17th, 18th and 19th-century salon culture. London-based baker and arts lover Cottage – dubbed “The SconeMan” – is best known for his artisan scones, providing them for high-end venues such as Sketch in Mayfair and Sally Clarke’s, and lauded by the likes of chef Pierre Gagnaire (former winner of the Best Chef in the World award).

This Sunday’s event will feature an extra long interval for mingling with the musicians and enjoying a glass of champagne with some exceptional scones by the series’ founder. Limited tickets are available via Royal Academy’s box office.
