Gloria teams up with Rome’s Alfredo alla Scrofa for charity pasta dinner in Shoreditch

On Tuesday 28th October, Italian restaurant Gloria in Shoreditch will host a one-off charity dinner featuring a collaboration between its executive chef, Filippo La Gattuta, and Mario Mozzetti, owner of the historic Alfredo alla Scrofa restaurant in Rome. The event, held at the premises on Great Eastern Street, will raise funds for London-based food redistribution charity The Felix Project.

The occasion marks Mozzetti’s first visit to London and will showcase the iconic Fettuccine Alfredo, a dish that originated at Alfredo alla Scrofa over a century ago. The four-course menu, inspired by Roman cuisine, will also include traditional offerings such as Supplì (fried rice balls), Vitello Saltimbocca (veal with prosciutto and sage) and Tiramisu for dessert. Of course, the centrepiece will be the Fettuccine Alfredo – a deceptively simple dish made with just pasta, butter and Parmigiano-Reggiano, whose preparation is considered an art form. It will be finished tableside by a mantecatore, who specialises in the art of mantecatura – the traditional Italian technique of combining butter and Parmesan cheese to create a creamy sauce. According to organisers, the role is so important that the individual’s hands have been insured!

The event starts at 7.30pm and is expected to attract both food enthusiasts and supporters of The Felix Project’s mission. Mario Mozzetti’s appearance adds historical significance, but also affords diners a rare opportunity to sample Alfredo alla Scrofa’s signature dish as it was originally intended, prepared by those who continue to uphold its legacy. Tickets are priced at £79, with all profits donated to the charity.
